Safeguarding Your Property
Local Moves
Local Moves (30 miles and under in VA, DC, and select counties in MD and WV)
A good truck, a good crew, and a good packing job are your best assurances, but sometimes, accidents do happen. Therefore, limited valuation coverage is required by most states. For local moves, MG Moving Services automatically provides limited valuation coverage at $.60 per pound, per article up to a maximum of $50. For example, if a 10-pound stereo component valued at $1,000 was destroyed, the moving company would be liable for no more than $6.00 (10 pounds x $.60). Additionally, the age and depreciation of the items are considered in the settlement of claims. If you'd like extra protection, please consider contacting your representative to discuss additional coverage.
Interstate & Intrastate Moves
Interstate Moves (State-to-State)
Intrastate Moves (31 miles and over within VA)
For interstate & intrastate moves, MG Moving Services provides limited valuation coverage for items that are lost or destroyed in the amount of .60 cents per pound, per article, up to a maximum of $50. Higher valuation coverage is also available. Contact MG Moving Services for information and prices.
Full Value Protection Plan
You can purchase additional peace of mind with our Full Value Protection Plan (“Valuation Coverage”). This is a more comprehensive plan available for the protection of your belongings, above the included industry-standard coverage, which values your items minimally at .60 cents per pound, up to a $50 maximum value per item. With Full Value Protection, MG Moving Services is liable for the repair or actual cash value of damaged goods in your shipment, including larger furniture and carrier-packed boxes. By purchasing this additional protection, MG Moving Services will transport your shipment under the Full Value Protection level of liability. If any covered article is destroyed or damaged while in our custody, we will offer to do one (1) of the following for each item, at our discretion:
- Repair the item
- Replace with a similar item
- Make a cash settlement for the cost of the repair or actual cash value
The actual cost for Full Value Protection varies according to the deductible level that you select. Please contact MG Moving Services for rates and more information.
What is the Difference between Valuation and Insurance?
Insurance
Insurance differs from valuation in two fundamental ways. First, the amount of insurance must have a direct relationship to the value of the property being insured. If it does not, a penalty may be applied at the time a claim is paid. For instance, if property worth $50,000 is insured for $25,000, only 50% of any claim will be paid. Second, insurance is a contract between the owner of the property being moved and an insurance company as described on a policy or Certificate of Insurance. Moving company contracts are generally not part of this contract. Movers cannot settle insurance claims unless they are specifically authorized by the insurance company. My Guys Moving & Storage, Inc. is not an insurance company. It does, however, settle its in-house claims through its Claims Department.
Valuation
Valuation is the predetermined limit of liability provided by the moving company by the wording on the Bill of Lading.
This limit of liability has no relationship to the actual value of the shipment. Like most local moving companies, My Guys Moving & Storage, Inc. provides limited valuation coverage at sixty cents ($.60) per pound, per article up to a maximum of fifty dollars ($50.00). For example, if a 10 pound stereo component valued at $1,000 were lost or destroyed, the moving company would be liable for no more than $6.00 (10 pounds x $.60). Additionally, the age and depreciation of the items are considered in the settlement of claims. If this arrangement is not acceptable, you may want to consider purchasing additional valuation coverage from MG Moving Services or purchase insurance from an insurance company.
Valuation Acknowledgements
Limited Valuation Coverage of sixty cents ($.60) per pound, per article up to a maximum of fifty dollars ($50.00) is included with the move, whichever is less.
Any deductible applies to the customer and not to MG Moving Services.
Full Value Liability Coverage is not automatically provided. If purchased, it cannot be added or dropped once the crew starts your move.
Additional coverages/lower deductibles are available, and these extra coverages must be declared/approved before the job starts. An approval code must be obtained from MG Moving Services management before any extra coverage/deductible will become valid.
